Within the shell of two existing apartments, we reimagined a single, luxurious chalet using traditional and natural materials from the locale in a direct and purposeful way. We referenced the vernacular but eschewed kitsch.

A display vitrine for objets trouves defines the foyer space. When the large, leather pivot doors are closed, the vitrine becomes a lens into the living room.
A tough stone floor and a large timber closet for snowy boots and coats defines the hall. A bench in leather provides a comfortable sitting space to take the outside off.
A central sculptural island in spruce wood topped by Evolene gneiss is framed by a wide opening from living room to kitchen.
The material palette harnesses the numerous abundant stones from the surrounding valleys and is complimented by local spruce wood and linen.
Development sketches and collages formed part of our process. Here we explored the form and character of the fireplace — the heart and anchor of the living room.
The powder room is a place to have fun. Here we proposed a dark, lacquered cabinet of rosewood walls with a Macchiavechia marble floor and polished stainless steel, tubular vanity unit that centres the circular mirror.
